GLOSSARY
Short delivery
What is short delivery?
A short delivery is a delivery in which fewer units arrive than were ordered on the purchase order. It may be a whole line missing or a line delivered in part. Short deliveries are common where suppliers send what they have in stock and back-order the rest.
The correct treatment is to receive the quantity that actually arrived and leave the balance open on the purchase order. Only what was received is paid for.
Why it matters
A short delivery captured as a full delivery overstates stock, closes the purchase order early and lets the full invoice through. The shortfall is then found at picking time, when a customer order cannot be filled.
How Weeva handles it
Goods Receiving Automation records the received quantity, leaves the balance open on the purchase order and flags the line for the receiver to confirm. The GRV (GRN elsewhere) is posted for what arrived, so invoice matching sees the real quantity.
