Pack size

What is pack size?

Pack size is the number of units in one saleable or deliverable pack of a product, usually written as 12 x 500ml or 6 x 1L. The same product can be sold as a single, a pack or a case, and each level may have its own code and barcode.

Pack sizes also change when suppliers repackage a product. An order or a delivery only reconciles when both sides agree on the pack, so pack size is recorded against every product in the catalogue.

Why it matters

'1 x case' from one customer and '12' from another can be the same order. Get the pack wrong and pricing breaks in one direction and stock in the other: a case price is charged for a single, or singles are received as cases.

How Weeva handles it

Sales Order Automation learns whether each customer orders in packs or singles, per product, and converts the ordered quantity to the shipped quantity, keeping both on the order. On the receiving side, pack size variances are converted to units and flagged if the totals do not reconcile.
